5 Things To Do After an Arrest

The moments immediately following an arrest are confusing and stressful. Knowing what to do can make the difference between a quick release and a long weekend in jail.

1. Remain Silent

You have the right to remain silent. Use it. Anything you say can be used against you in court. Politely state, “I am exercising my right to remain silent and would like to speak to an attorney.”

2. Do Not Resist

Even if you believe the arrest is unlawful, do not resist physically or verbally. Resisting arrest is a separate charge that can be added to your record.

3. Call a Bail Bondsman Immediately

Once you are booked, you will likely be allowed a phone call. Call Inmate Bail Bonds By Big Boy at (818) 244-3389. We can often get the booking information faster than you can get it from the public lines.

4. Be Polite to Officers

Jail staff have significant control over processing times. Being polite and cooperative during the booking process can sometimes speed things up.

5. Memorize Key Numbers

In the age of smartphones, we often don’t know phone numbers. Memorize at least one family member’s number and a bail bondsman’s number.
